The Bozeman Public Library hosted a intuitive collage workshop last Saturday where participants cut up outdated real estate listings and rearranged them into personal vision boards. The event filled the community room within twenty minutes of opening.

Facilitator Juniper Whitmore, who describes her practice as “material divination,” guided the group through a breathing exercise before distributing scissors, glue sticks, and a cardboard box of flyers she collected from Main Street bulletin boards. The listings ranged from a 1998 two-bedroom on South Third listed at $145,000 to a current Four Corners townhome starting at $895,000.

“I cut out the master suite from the townhome and pasted it over the master suite from the 1998 listing,” said Todd Haverford, a Belgrade resident who drove in for the workshop. “Then I wrote ‘paid off’ in gold marker across the mortgage calculator. It felt like reclaiming something.”

Whitmore encouraged participants to notice which images triggered contraction and which sparked expansion. Several attendees reported a tingling sensation when cutting out square footage numbers. One woman pasted a photo of a backyard chicken coop over a listing for a luxury condo rooftop deck.

“The paper holds the energy of everyone who looked at these listings and thought maybe,” Whitmore said. “When we cut and rearrange, we’re not just making art. We’re composting the anxiety.”

The library has scheduled a follow-up session for next month using printed Zillow screenshots. Registration opens Monday at 406-555-0147. The waitlist is already longer than the participant list.
