A new show at Cottonwood Gallery on North 19th presents twelve nearly identical oil paintings of Mount Baldy. Each canvas represents the view from a different unit at the Peak View condominiums, where one-bedrooms start at $725,000.

Artist Mara Linden spent six weeks accessing balconies through a combination of open houses, a friend’s housewarming, and what she describes as “energetic alignment” with the building’s property manager. The paintings differ only in the angle of a roofline, the presence of a grill, and the slant of afternoon light.

“I wanted to see if the mountain changes when you finance it at different rates,” Linden said. She mixed each palette with a pinch of soil from the building’s excavation, which she collected during a full moon grounding ceremony last October.

Gallery owner Derek Vance said attendance has been steady, with visitors alternating between quiet contemplation and checking Zillow on their phones. Several attendees have asked whether the paintings come with HOA dues. They do not.

The exhibit runs through September. Linden is already planning a follow-up series documenting the view from the parking garage, where the mountain disappears entirely behind a Ford F-250.
