A new porch concert series on North 7th Avenue invites residents from both the original cottages and the new four-story condo development to share music across what used to be a backyard fence line. The series began last Tuesday when Mara Linden, a singer-songwriter who has lived in her 1920s cottage for twelve years, set up a PA system on her front porch and played songs about rising property taxes and the particular grief of watching familiar rooflines disappear.

Trevor Chen, who moved into a corner unit at the Aspen Ridge condos in March, brought a folding chair and a six-pack of local IPA. He said he had not realized how quiet the neighborhood was until he heard Mara’s guitar. “I work remote three days a week,” he said. “The silence was starting to feel like a hum I couldn’t tune out.”

Doris Havelock, who has lived three doors down since 1978, brought her famous rhubarb crisp and sat on a quilt she crocheted herself.
