Four Corners Self Storage on Jackrabbit Lane has added a regulation pickleball court between Building C and the RV covered parking. Owner Dale Henthorn said the court came from tenant feedback. “People store their paddles here anyway,” Henthorn said. “Might as well let them use them.”

The facility opened in 2019 on land that grew malt barley until the irrigation rights sold. Henthorn bought the acreage from the Whitaker family, who still run cattle on the bench above the interstate. The court surface is post-tension concrete with acrylic coating. Lighting is LED, motion-activated, dark-sky compliant.

Monthly rent for a ten-by-twenty unit is $185. Court access is included. Paddle rentals are $3 per hour from the vending machine beside the ice dispenser. The machine also sells electrolyte packets and compression sleeves. Office kiosk reachable at 406-555-0192.

Member Karen Veldkamp, who stores a sixteen-foot Lund and two kayaks in Unit 44, played the first match Tuesday against her nephew from Missoula. “He smashed everything,” Veldkamp said. “But I got the dink game down.” She said the court beats driving to the fairgrounds complex. “And I can check the boat cover between games.”

Henthorn is permitting a league for October. Sign-ups are at the office kiosk beside the propane exchange. First prize is a month free. Second prize is a case of pickleballs. Third prize is a tour of the climate-controlled wine storage wing, which opened in June and maintains fifty-five degrees year-round.

The wine wing is seventy percent full. Most clients are from Big Sky, Henthorn said. They store cases they buy on release and visit quarterly. “They fly in, grab a case, fly out,” he said. “Never see the court.”

The court saw fourteen matches in its first week. The RV covered parking is ninety percent occupied. The malt barley yields averaged sixty bushels an acre in 2018.
