Margaret “Marge” Calloway, 84, of Bozeman, died peacefully on July 28, 2026, at her home on West Babcock, two blocks from the house she and Frank bought in 1968 for what she always called “a normal amount of money.”

She ran Calloway Small Engine Repair on North 7th for forty-two years, back when North 7th was two lanes and the only traffic jam was the occasional cattle drive. She could coax a stubborn chainsaw into starting with three pulls and a few choice words, a skill she considered more practical than anything taught at the university up the hill.

Marge watched the valley fill in. The hay field across the street became a subdivision. The subdivision became “luxury townhomes.” Her property tax bill became a monthly topic at the Senior Center, where she held court at Table 4 and reminded anyone listening that she paid $18,500 for the place and “that included the shed.”

“They keep building,” she told the Bee in 2019, stirring her coffee. “But nobody asks who’s gonna fix their snowblowers.”

Her daughter Susan lives in Belgrade now, in a house that cost more than Marge’s first thirty years of payroll combined. Her grandson Tyler is an MSU junior who thinks he understands Bozeman because he hikes the M on weekends.

Services will be held at Dahl Funeral Chapel on August 9 at 11 a.m., followed by coffee and those little sandwiches she liked.
