Shirley Ann Blackfeather passed quietly on August 12, 2026, at her home on South 8th Avenue, where she had lived since 1987. She worked the circulation desk at MSU’s Renne Library for forty-one years, checking out books to generations of students who arrived certain they understood this place and left realizing they did not.

She remembered when the M Trail was just a faint line maintained by student volunteers and a few stubborn locals. She watched the rooflines creep up the foothills, each new silhouette a small negotiation between what the valley was and what it was becoming.
