Bozeman residents packed the County Commission meeting last night, their concerns buzzing louder than a server farm, over a proposed clarification to county zoning ordinances regarding “data centers.” The discussion centered on a potential new definition that would require a special community vote before any structure deemed a “data center” could be approved. This comes as several new developments are planned across the Gallatin Valley.

“We just want to make sure we know what’s coming,” said Agnes Periwinkle, a long-time resident of a charming historic cottage near North 7th, who spoke passionately at the meeting. “One minute it’s open fields, the next it’s a big building humming away. We heard these ‘servers’ use a lot of power and make noise, and I just planted my petunias.”
