Gallery exhibits doors salvaged from North 19th teardowns

A new exhibit at Interim Space Gallery on North 7th displays seventeen doors removed from cottages demolished along North 19th Avenue over the past two years. Each door hangs at eye level with its original hardware intact. Knobs turn. Deadbolts click. Hinges swing freely in the gallery’s filtered light.

Gallery director Mara Lindstrom said the collection arrived in a rented box truck last Tuesday. The doors still carry traces of their previous lives. Faint growth charts in pencil on a bedroom door. A cat’s claw marks on a back entry. Blue paint chips revealing white beneath revealing gray beneath revealing the original wood.
